Grab your boots! Grab your sticks! Grab your horses? We’re climbing a volcano!
Last night we had the chance to climb VolcanPacaya, a volcano about an hour away from Antigua, close to Guatemala City. The ascent up the volcano we were amazed by the breathtaking views at every pit stop. Guatemala is a beauty in itself, with all its volcanos and mountain ranges; we are once again reminded of how small we are in this big world.
We had the pleasure of having Jay & Andrea Janzen join us on the hike. Jay is a pastor at a church in Abottsford, BC and during our first semester we had the chance to check out his church and have lunch with Jay and his family. Also Jay was one of our instructors, teaching on Conflict Resolution. We had a great time hiking with them, being able to chat, and enjoy in the beauty that was around us.
When we made it to our destination, our guides had marshmallows and sticks and we were able to roast our mallows over some hot air vents. Not an every day experience when we get to have roasted mallows and look out over the vastness of Guatemala. Then for some real fun we all ran down the side of the volcano, no biggie.
I guess that’s just another day on Outtatown : )
